Conrad Birdie, the biggest rock & roll star of the 50s, has been drafted into the military. Aspiring songwriter Albert is convinced he can make his fortune and marry his girlfriend Rosie if he gets Conrad on the Ed Sullivan Show to kiss Kim MacAfee, a member of his fan club. Sweet Apple, Ohio, where most of the action takes place, is home to Kim and her family, who host Conrad while the rest of the town goes mad with "Birdie fever."
